LEONGATHA agents offered a yarding of 1000 cattle, that was reminiscent of the old Korumburra store sales with many pens of dairy and dairy cross steers and heifers penned.
The lack of well bred cattle left a few buyers unable to make a start. However, this, by no means, depleted the competition and demand for cattle with another very strong sale occurring.
A local bullock fattener paid $1690 for a small pen of 6 Angus steers, Harris blood, which set the market’s top price. K,P&R Hourigan, Buffalo, sold 17 yearling Hereford steers, 2 teeth, from $1530-$1550, and Backline P/L Fish Creek, 14 Angus steers for $1670.
Selling very well was 12 Angus steers, Pinora & Leawood blood, making from $1230-$1580.
Younger and lighter weight steers sold exceptionally well with two pens of very light Murray Grey steers selling for $910, and estimated to equal over 600c/kg lwt.
Many Friesians were penned, ranging from bucket calves to bullocks. Prices ranged between $370 & $1460. Jenoladale P/L, Hedley, sold a run of 87 steers from $480-$910. CR Pratt, Lardner, sold 13 Friesian cross steers from $1000-$1550.
Heifers were in short supply, and met with strong demand. C&K Christensen sold 5 Angus heifers for $1410 with most sales from $1030-$1200. White Creek Pastoral Co sold 20South Devon & Angus heifers for $1150.
