Adrenaline pumping action kept close to 1100 spectators at the ABCRA North Queensland Zone Finals Rodeo on the edge of their seats on Saturday in Charters Towers.
The Charters Towers Rodeo Association (CTRA) hosted the Zone Finals which saw the top 10 competitors cowboys and cowgirls tough it out for the end of year trophy buckles at the Dalrymple Equestrian Centre.
CTRA secretary Fay Staub said the gate attendance for the event was very pleasing.
“It was unpredictable due to the date clashes with the Ewan and Twin Hills races, however it has been a very successful event, and everyone I spoke to said they had a great time” Ms Staub said.
CTRA vice president Mark Gibb said across every event the level of skill displayed was top notch, and that the days action proceeded in a seamless manner.
“The committee did a great job, and hopefully if all goes well we’ll host the finals in the Towers again next year,” Mr Gibb said.
Open title winners included: Darcy Kersh, team roping header; Liam Davison, team roping heeler; Bridie Davison, breakaway roping; Owen Lee, bareback; Chris Cameron, rope and tie, all round cowboy and most improved cowboy; Ryley Gibb, steer wrestling; Suzie Fearon, barrel race and all round cowgirl; Jaemi-lee Krause, steer undecorating; Colin Fry, saddle bronc and Jake Plate in the open bull ride.
