The March 2015-drop bull Woonallee Lady Killer has continued its winning streak, by taking out supreme Simmental exhibit after winning interbreed champion bull at the Royal Adelaide Show last month.
At only 18 months of age, the junior bull tipped the scales at 900 kilograms and had impressive scans of 135 square centimetres eye muscle area, 8mm rump fat and 7mm on the rib.
Texan judge Fred Schuetze, a global stalwart of the breed, commended the “impressive calf” that was true to type, had an exceptional amount of meat and a great temperament.
He said it was incredible to find such as impressive bull that was poll and had plenty of potential yield in the highest value area – between the last rib and hip.
Mr Schuetze, who added colour to judging day with his different turn of phrase and unlit cigar, was also impressed by the the ypoung bull’s wide gait – he said walking wide indicated good internal muscling.
Tom Baker, Woonallee stud, Furner, SA, said the bull was a “unique individual” and would be the first bull retained from that sire line, despite his sire Woonallee BHR Tornado being 10 years old.
“He has unbelievable performance; it’s hard to breed one like that,” Mr Baker said.
It trumped its stablemate Woonallee Charo H140, the grand champion female, for the supreme sash.
The champion cow was four years old cow and had its second calf at-foot.
Mr Schuetze said she had a sound structure, perfect udder, excellent rib capacity and was doing an excellent job with its bull calf.
“She’s got excellent neck extension that blends really well into shoulders,” he added.
Mr Schuetze said they were two exceptional contenders and were part of a great line-up of Simmentals. He last judged in Melbourne in 2009 and said since then, breeders had made “tremendous progress”.
