Uandi Pastoral Co, East Orange, NSW, has attributed its Royal Melbourne Show success to its implementation of French genetics.
Lyn French, Uandi, said the bull, which took out supreme Maine-Anjou exhibit, was sired by a French bull, whose genetics were imported to Australia.
“We’ve imported from Canada before, but in the last few years have been sourcing genetics from France,” Ms French said.
“We’ve bought in 50 embryos so far, and the bulls we’ve bought today are the progenies from those embryos.”
She said the supreme champion had one of the smallest birth weights of the herd, but has grown out to be one of their biggest bulls.
“He’s everything the breed needs, he’s soft, but has big muscle,” she said.
Ms French said the bull would go into artificial insemination to be exported overseas, potentially back to France.
“We’ve already had interest from New Caledonia,” she said.
Judge Rachael Wheeler, T and R Genetics, Wellington, NSW, said the bull was a young sire in the making.
“Its performance is great, it moves around the ring really well,” Ms Wheeler said.
“He’s got a great carcase, and is structurally correct.”
Uandi also took out grand champion cow, with their cow over 36 months.
Ms Wheeler said the cow was “structurally correct, with a great udder”.
