NINUENOOK
11 of 21 rams sold to $1350, av $775
WITH the Avoca River rising and causing flooding on roads, many potential buyers were put off attending the Ninuenook ram sale last Wednesday.
The few buyers who did attend purchased 11 of the 21 rams on sale, av $775.
The top-priced ram was Lot-3, a 20.29 micron ram that weighs 94kgs, with an Eye Muscle Depth of 42, which came to $1400.
The ram was purchased by Mark Richardson, Boothby Downs, Culburra, SA.
“We’ve seen Ninuenook sheep at Sheepvention in Hamilton, and we really liked their wool quality and solid frames,” Mr Richardson said.
A first time buyer, Mr Richardson said the ram will be joined with his flock of ewes to breed replacement rams.
“He had very good eye muscle and fat cover, a good quality frame, and a meaty body with good quality wool,” he said.
Elizabeth Todd, Ninuenook, said she was happy with how the sale went despite there only being six registered buyers.
“I think it all went well considering the weather conditions and what people had to go through to get here,” Mrs Todd said.
Mrs Todd said buyers are attracted to the consistency in the rams’ bodies and wool fibre.
“It’s the white wool, it’s got good character, the sheep really hold their micron,” she said.
“They’re not overly big sheep, and they’re very fertile, high performing rams.”
Return buyers, Mr Haw and Mr Hines, Umbango Partners, Tarcutta, NSW, purchased two rams each.
New vendor, Penrith Nominees, Winchelsea, took home three rams.
Mrs Todd said there are still 10 rams available for private sale.
“There are some very good wool rams, with stretchy bodies, which remain at Nineunook for private selection after the flood waters recede,” she said.
The sale was conducted by Glendon Hancock, Elders St Arnaud.
