MERRYVILLE
101 of 144 Merinos sold to $5500, av $1885
MERRYVILLE Merino stud, Boorowa, NSW, sold 101 rams from 144 offered at their on-property sale last week to a top of $5500 and $1885 average.
The $5500 top-priced two-year-old ram weighing 116 kilograms went to loyal clients, the Price family of “Boiga View”, Pyramul, NSW.
Out of a Ringmaster Syndicate, Merryville R1784 had fleece measurements of 17.2-micron fibre diameter, 2.6 standard deviation (SD), 15.1 per cent coefficient of variation (CV) and 100pc comfort factor (CF).
Ben Price, buying on behalf of his father Tony, said the ram took his eye for his crimp of wool and he stood exceptionally well on his feet.
The Prices run a 1500 head self-replacing Merino enterprise entirely of Merryville bloodlines. Their new ram will be joined to their breeding ewes in February 2017.
The second highest price ram, knocked down for $4500, was taken home by Victorian clients, M.F. and F.G. Allen, Teesdale.
Merryville B1863, a 115kg superfine two-year-old, had fleece measurements of 17.3-micron fibre diameter, 2.5 SD, 14.5pc CV and 99.9pc CF.
The Allens purchased a second ram for $2200, an ultrafine 18-micron son of Brilliant Monarch Super 9th.
Sliding into the third highest price position and top money in the polls, was Merryville PK6222, a Pemcaw Poll son with fleece measurements of 18-micron fibre diameter, 2.9 SD, 16.1pc CV and 99.4pc CF.
He was snapped up by Ken Williams, “Ashurnia”, Orange, for $4200.
The forth highest price ram which sold for a neat $4000 went to another Victorian client, N.T. Collins, Hunterston.
Yet another two-year-old, the ultrafine March-shorn ram by Merryville EM, had a 17.3-micron fibre diameter, 3.3 SD, 19.1pc CV and 99.1pc CF.
They managed to secure a second ram, a 12-month-old 15.9-micron superfine ram from the Ringmaster Syndicate, for $3000.
Victorian client of 20 plus years, Jeff Fitzgerald, Harrow, NSW, secured six medium wool rams to a top of $2600 twice for two Poll Merinos and averaged $2216.
Kongbool Pastoral Company, Balmoral, purchasing rams from Merryville for the past five years, took away three ultrafine rams to a high of $1900 and $1300 average.
Kershaw and Co, Gundaroo, NSW, took home five rams to average $2520. Included in their draft was Merryville PK6019, a poll ram by for which they paid $3200. Volume buyers included R.W. Morse, “Spireview” Toorewenah, NSW, who loaded up with 13 rams to average $815. Checkers Pastoral Company, Cargo, NSW, built a handy draft of nine rams to a high of $3500 twice on their way to an average of $2811, while Golden Glen Partnership, Garra, NSW, secured seven rams to average $1085 and top at $1400.
Stud co-principal, George Merriman, said even though some of the younger sheep had done it a little tougher this year, the draft of rams presented well on the day.
“The sale went very well, nearly all buyers were repeat, with the exception of a couple of new faces, but it was the return buyers that took the bulk of the rams,” Mr Merriman said.
The sale was settled by Elders Goulburn with Steve Ridley, Elders, and Rick Power, Landmark, Grenfell, sharing the rostrum.
