SOUTH East dairyfarmer John Hunt has been elected as president of the SA Dairyfarmers Association, following the association’s annual general meeting yesterday.
Mr Hunt, who farms Fernleaf, with about 240 crossbred cows, alongside wife Karen, at Allendale East, had been a member of the SADA board for a number of years.
This comes as former SADA president David Basham, Mount Compass, moves into the role of acting Australian Dairy Farmers president, in response to the milk price crisis.
Vice president Nick Brokenshire had been acting as interim president but chose not to stand at the AGM due to other commitments. He stays on as vice president.
Mr Hunt said he had stepped into the role at a difficult time for dairyfarmers and he considered the most important part of his position to make sure farmers voices are heard.
SADA chief executive officer Andrew Curtis said the board was delighted with the appointment.
“I think this will be great for the industry,” he said.
