THE Hull family's Minta Poll Merino and Merino ram sale at Mount Cooper smashed last year's top price and average on Thursday, August 25.
There were 92 out of 100 rams sold during the auction, but full clearance of the remaining eight rams occurred straight after the sale.
The average was $362 up on the previous year at a very strong $2287.
The top price more than tripled last year’s highest, at $16,500.
The highest price ram was bought by Clint Rayner, Millbrae Poll Merinos, Kimba.
Mr Rayner said the ram was a great, structurally sound sheep with no faults.
He also praised its bright, medium, well-nourished wool.
The ram is the son of Collinsville Emperor 339, a sire which has been breeding extremely well for the Minta stud.
It weighed 127 kilograms, with a fat depth of 6.1 millimetres and eye muscle depth of 44.1mm.
The rams fleece was 20.6 micron with 3.1 standard deviation, 14.9 coefficient of variation and comfort factor of 99.7 per cent.
A son of Minta 215 was the second highest price ram in the sale and sold for $6000. It went to WA buyers Scott and Sue Pickering, Pyramid Poll Merino stud, Cascade, on the recommendation of Cousins Merino Services’ Paul Cousins, Burra.
It was the first-time the stud had purchased from Minta.
The ram weighed 105kg, with 5mm fat depth and EM 40.3mm. Its fleece was 18.2M, SD 3, CV 16.6 and 99.8CF.
Volume buyers included Westwud Pty Ltd, Wudinna, six rams to $5250 and Courtablie Pastoral Co, Port Kenny, five rams to $800.
Streaky Bay purchasers included Hollitt Pastoral, four rams to $1200, and R&G Rowe, four rams to $3000.
Studmaster Jesse Hull said he was rapt with the sale results, which was helped along by the addition of half a dozen new clients.
