33 of 36 rams sold to $7000, av $2070
THE Coryule stud, Willowvale, has continued its recent broad ribbon show success with the top priced ram at this year’s Ballarat Show ram sale.
The Reserve Champion Medium Merino of the show fetched $7000 and will make the trip across the Tasman to be used as a sire prospect.
The August 14 drop ram sired by Charinga 1049 was described as a “classic ram” by sale judge Michael Collins, Mt Bute, and placed first in the presale judging.
The ram carried a fleece measuring 19.2 micron with a standard deviation (SD) of 2.6, coefficient of variance (CV) of 13.5 and comfort factor of 99.8.
Agent for the undisclosed buyer Damian Meaburn, Roberts Merino specialist, Tasmania, spotted the ram at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo recently.
“He’s a good sire prospect with a good heavy cutting lustrous fleece on a good frame,” Mr Meaburn said.
“The ram will be used over specially selected ewes.”
The second of Coryule’s offering sold for $2500 to David and Michelle Elsom, Warrabkook.
The 17.8 micron ram was Champion Fine Merino at the show and also placed second in presale judging.
This along with two other rams, offered and sold, resulted in a sale average of $3187 for Coryule.
Long-time supporters of the Ballarat event Merryville had the second top priced ram at $5250 which was purchased by the Demondrille stud, Harden.
The August 14 drop ram sired by EM Performance had wool measuring 17.4 micron with a (SD) of 2.8 a (CV) of 16.5 and comfort factor of 99.8.
The six other Merryville rams on offer all sold and delivered a solid average of $2571.
Volume buyer of the sale, buying five of the Merryville rams was Waratah Pastoral, Cavendish, they purchased two rams for a top of $3000 at an average of $2000
Other sales of note were sale lot 1 from the Glenpaen stud, Brimpaen, which sold for $3750 and was judged third at presale and lot 17 from Wurrook, Rokewood, making $3500.
The sale grossed just over $70,000 with 33 of 36 rams sold at an average of $2070.
The result was similar to last year’s average of $2085.
