RECORDS fell last Thursday at the Roe Creek saleyards in Alice Springs, NT, with steers making to $3.54 a kilogram.
That was 60c/kg up on last year’s top price of $2.94/kg.
There were 2660 quality store cattle yarded, which were drawn in from north of Tennant Creek to just across the border of SA.
Buyers came from SA, Vic, NSW and Qld, with local support as well.
The top price in cents per kilogram was for milk-tooth, black baldy steers from Lucy Creek, via Alice Springs. Four pens were sold, totalling 165 head, for an average of $3.54/kg at an average weight of 360.2kg. These returned at $1275.15 a head and were sold to Princess Royal.
The top price per head were 34 two-tooth, black baldy steers also from Lucy Creek. They were sold to Teys Charlton, for $3.38/kg, with an average weight of 428.5kg, totalling $1448.43 a head.
