Precision agriculture specialist, Charles DuBourg, has joined agricultural technology provider, Agworld, as east coast account manager.
Mr DuBourg brings nearly 20 years’ experience in agribusiness, including the past 14 as technical services manager with IK Caldwell.
Agworld is an integrated cloud-based information management and collaboration program for farmers, agronomists and suppliers.
It allows subscribers to capture and share critical information, activities and recommendations in real time and in both online and offline situations.
Decision-making tools, such as crop production plans, geospatial data interrogation, agronomic recommendations, crop performance and financial records are provided.
Agworld general manager, Simon Foley said “Agworld continues to be at the forefront of in-field decision making tools in Australia and our user base has grown significantly over the past 12 months.
“About 70 per cent of Australian agronomists are utilising our platform in their daily recommendations.
“In turn, they are connected to about 50pc of Australian broadacre producers via their subscription, while about 25pc of producers are subscribers in their own right.”
Mr DuBourg will provide technical support and training in the eastern states.
“He will also play a key role as we roll out certain precision ag features and functionalities in the Australian market over the next six months,” Mr Foley said.
During his time with IK Caldwell, Mr DuBourg said he became more involved in ‘decision agriculture’ – the provision of technology-based solutions and services to help agronomists and growers make informed decisions.
“This involved creating new services off the back of available technologies, such as soil moisture probes, weather forecasting, pest and disease modelling, crop monitoring and crop/soil analytics,” he said.
“In recent years, I was able to introduce precision ag services, such as processing yield data, soil mapping and satellite-based plant biomass imagery.
“Underpinning this was the need for a flexible platform that allowed us to record planning and infield data relating to crop production.”
He said this had given great insight into Agworld’s capabilities.
“There’s a lot of hype about technology in agriculture but if you cut through the noise what’s most important is the ability to easily record, access and use meaningful data,” he said.
