Rock-Bank stud, Victoria Valley, has won Victorian bred ram of the Australian Sheep and Wool Show, with a large Poll Merino ram that impressed judges for its conformation, balance and white and bright, that covered its impressive frame.
Reserve was awarded to Glen Donald, Nhill.
Judge Michael Collins, Mount Bute stud, Linton, said it was a very difficult and not unanimous decision but ultimately the Rock-Bank ram prevailed thanks to its for its purity, staple length and coverage.
“This ram is a good package and while the reserve is structurally very good and stands very well, its staple isn’t as long as the Rock-Bank ram,” Mr Collins said.
Rock-Bank’s Nicole Crawford said the winner was by a son of a ram purchased at Dubbo in 2014 from Pemcaw Poll.
“He’ll be the stud’s top lead Poll sire,” Ms Crawford said, highlighting its high level of production and scale, especially for its superfine type.
Its wool measured 17.2M, 2.5SD, 14.5 CV of FD, 99.9 per cent CF, 59 curv, 15.9 spinning fineness.
