Yentrac Southdowns, Tatura, was the most successful exhibitor in its class at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show, Bendigo.
Judge Brayden Gilmore said the stud’s sheep were the type he liked to see promoted.
“They are very good ewes and you know they’re going to breed on well,” he said.
“The studs that were beaten on the day also showed good sheep that will breed on well. But they were beaten by structural soundness and slightly older and larger sheep.”
Yentrac stud took out Champion ram, Champion ewe and Reserve Champion ewe.
“They are the top I’ve been promoting all day,” Mr Gilmore said.
Reserve Champion ram was awarded to Tasmania’s Fairbank stud, for a weaner sire. Chris Badcock, principal of Fairbank, said the same ram was awarded Champion and Reserve Interbreed status at the recent Campbell Town show.
First time exhibitor, Shellal Southdown Stud, Hawkesdale, was excited to receive the best hindquarter award.
“It’s our debut showing and win in the Southdown ring,” stud principal Tania King said.
