Supreme Champion Cheviot: Waddell
Grand Champion Ram: Waddell
Reserve Grand Champion Ram: Greyoaks
Grand Champion Ewe: Chain Gate
Reserve Champion: Chain Gate.
Cheviot judge New Zealander Malcolm KcKelvie, said the animals presented this year compared favourably with those in his home country.
The Waddell family, Warragul, took out the Supreme Champion ribbon, although Wagga stud Chain Gate won the ribbons for best ewes.
Mr McKelvie said Cheviots were a small breed, in New Zealand, as well.
“They are a wee bit cleaner on the heads, as far as that black spots go, in New Zealand, but size wise and quality, its very much the same,” Mr McKelvie said.
“We are getting good reports for hogget mating, because the Cheviot is so easy to birth.”
He said the collapse in the dairy market had meant some farmers where switching back to Cheviots, whose wool was used to make apparel.
