NO ONE in the Bessiebelle-Macarthur community wants gas mining to continue, says Aggie Stevens.
The Hamilton farmer said it was only industry bodies who were supporting gas fracking in the area.
Ms Stevens said a survey conducted in 2015 across the Macarthur community found more than 97 per cent voted against the gas fields.
A Declaration Day held on August 7 will demonstrate this opposition and hopes to “stop it before it goes further”.
“It’s going to ruin our farms,” she said.
“It risks our ground and surface water and the companies don’t even have to disclose what chemicals they’re using.”
Families, industry representatives and politicians are invited to attend what will be a “fun day out” from 11am at Suffoir Vineyard in Macarthur.
The event will be held ahead of the Victorian Government’s decision in August to pursue the unconventional gas mining.
“The theme is the next generation – Why I love where I live,” Ms Stevens said.
“We want there to be a future here.”
