An excellent quality yarding from most agents, resulted in an excellent result for vendors at Pakenham, last Thursday. Competition came from far and wide, as did the yarding.
A feature line of 153 Angus steers, and 60 heifers was offered by Malcolm & Kerry Bishop, Lojosa Springs, from “Weira” their Deniliquin property, which they have on the market. Their steers sold from $810-$1275, or 370-405c/kg lwt, these prices covering the the range of most of the yarding. Their heifers sold from $750-$1000.
Top of the market was 20 Angus steers weighing 551-620kgs, making to $1960. Strong contenders in this market was Teys Bros, buying for their Charlton and Jinderle feedlot, and Thomas Foods International. They were ably supported by others buyers of feeder steers and heifer, paying mostly from $1200-$1800.
“Rangona”, Buffalo, sold 75 steers from $1180-$1330, and as they were weighed, they equalled 367-387c/kg lwt.
Demand for small, young steers was very strong. “Oakhaven”, Longwarry, sold 37 Angus steer calves from $880-$900, and KJ&HM Nicklen, Licola, 34 Angus steers from $830-$860.
Such was the strength of competition for steers, some buyers reverted t purchasing heifers, and this created some very good results. G&M Stephens sold 5 Angus heifers for $1390 ot top the heifer section, but it was the younger heifers that excelled.
Many of the heifers sold between $780 & $1110. GR&PM Briggs, Toolangi, offered 14 Charolais heifers that sold for $1170, and “Glendale”, Taggerty, sold 22 Charolais-Angus heifers to $910. Pepperhill Trading CO, Willow Grove, 27 Angus & Gelbvieh cross heifers from $900-$945.
Cows and calves sold to a top of $2350, most from $1540-$1900.
