The Victorian Government has announced funding for eligible farm businesses to pursue business planning and training activities to improve risk management and preparation for drought.
The $1.5 million being made available for the Farm Risk Management Grants program id part of the Labor Government’s $10 million drought community support package announced in March this year.
Eligible farm businesses will be able to receive up to $10,000 each from July 1, for a combination of activities to improve risk management and better prepare for drought.
Eligible farm businesses located in the local government areas of Buloke, Yarriambiack, Loddon, Northern Grampians, Horsham, Hindmarsh, Gannawarra, Pyrenees, Central Goldfields, West Wimmera and Ararat are encouraged to apply.
Acting Agriculture Minister Jacinta Allan said: “The Andrews Labor Government is backing our farmers to bounce back from the impacts of drought. We know that unfortunately this won’t be the last drought and we must build resilience to help those on the land as they face future challenges.”
She added although recent rains had offered some relief, until the cheques were in the bank, many of our farmers were still doing it tough.
“Farmers and regional communities called for support in proofing long term against drought and these grants help put the focus firmly on the future.”
Applications will close June 30 2017, or when funds are fully expended.
The program is being delivered by Rural Finance. To check eligibility, apply or find out more contact Rural Finance on 1800 260 425 or visit its website.
