Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) has appointed an interim managing director, to run the corporation until the end of October.
GMW chair Sarah Scales said the board had seconded Western Water managing director Neil Brennan to the position, from July to October.
“Neil has more than 30 years’ experience in the Victorian water industry,” Ms Scales said.
“He was appointed managing director at Western Water in 2012 and before that spent 15 years as managing director Central Highlands Water and was chief executive at Macedon Region Water Authorities
“Neil was the managing director of Central Highlands Water during the planning and implementation of numerous major infrastructure projects, including treatment plants and pipelines utilising the public private partnership framework.”
He has also overseen the implementation of a major upgrade of the Sunbury Recycle water treatment plant while at Western Water.
“We know Neil has the skills and experience to lead GMW while we work through our recruitment process to permanently fill the Managing Director position,” Ms Scales said.
GMW is Australia’s largest rural water authority.
It has more than 37,000 customers and delivers a more extensive range of services than any other water authority in the country.
Ms Scales said the business remained committed to driving efficiencies and passing the benefits onto its customers.
She said the GMW Board was very much aware the possibility of low water availability this season and the current dairy crisis were impacting its customers and said it was committed to doing all it could to support them.
“Neil’s focus will be supporting the executive team and staff along with the reset of the Connections Project,” Ms Scales said.
Mr Brennan said he was looking forward to the opportunity and understood supporting GMW customers and its communities were a top priority.
