Southdowns will be the feature breed at this year’s 2016 Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition, held as part of the Royal Melbourne Show.
Entries are now open.
Conducted annually by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), the competition offers participants the opportunity to benchmark their livestock, receive invaluable feedback from some of the industry’s most well-respected judges and be exposed to hundreds of thousands of Show attendees.
More than 700 entries are expected to be showcased in the 2016 competition, including about 60 to 80 Southdown sheep.
The competition awards some of the country’s most prestigious prizes and trophies, culminating in the presentation of the RASV All Breeds Sheep Interbreed.
“Australia, and Victoria in particular are world-renowned for producing superior quality sheep and wool and we look forward to showcasing the industry at the Royal Melbourne Show,” RASV chief executive Mark O’Sullivan said.
“As part of RASV’s focus on driving engagement and participation amongst youth, the Royal Melbourne Show Sheep program also offers an opportunity for students to get involved with the Sheep Schools Competition.”
Entries close on Monday 8 August and can be completed online at www.rasv.com.au, with RASV members eligible for a discount on entry fees.
The Royal Melbourne Show runs from September 17-27 at Melbourne Showgrounds.
