MYRTLEFORD agent, Dan Ivone, Paull & Scollard, accepted the challenge of having the first AuctionsPlus interface sale, at their end of autumn store cattle sale.
Having had 25mm of rain the previous day added to this interface sale, and created some very strong competition. This saw some cattle sell at prices not seen for many a year, and it was clear that the competition through the interface sale had a big effect.
Paull & Scollard principal, said “The boys have put in a huge effort to get this sale to fruition, working over the past two weeks with AuctionsPlus, and over the past two days and nights to get the cattle described, weighed, and penned for sale”.
The rain and the movement of cattle saw a lot of mud created, but this made little difference to the sale, despite some lacking gumboots.
Cows and calves were sold first, and aided by the interface competition, prices ranged from $1675-$2300, which was $300-$400 better than recent sales. Adam Fitridge, Whorouly, sold 22 Angus heifers with CAF 10-12 weeks from $2275-$2300.
These and other heifers were in store condition and weighed 392-439 kilograms liveweight and had young calves at foot. Doug Hamilton, Whorouly, sold 30 Angus heifers and calves for $2200 for a very successful sale.
Tomasoni Family Trust sold 19 yearling Angus steers from $1200-$1300, but it was the younger steers that sold very well. LM Carroll, Mudgegonga, sold 17 Angus steers, 327kg, for $1140, and Brinstock, Lucyvale, 36 Angus & Charolais cross steers from $940-$1100. Liveweight prices equalled 329-340c/kg.
Demand improved for the many pens of steers weighing 250-310kgs lwt. MP&S Antonello, Buffalo Creek, sold 44 Angus steers from $940-$1040, the later pen equalling 397c/kg lwt. A pen of 14 Angus steers, 255kg, offered by Dennis Rae, Murmungee, sold for $1100, or 431c/kg lwt.
Ranging between $750 & $1140, most of these younger steers equalled 350-385c/kg with only a few pens higher. Several purchases were made through Auctions Plus, and this added to the very good results.
Heifers weighing over 300kgs lwt, sold from $900-$1130 with Nylon Pty Ltd, selling 21 Angus heifers for the top price. Lighter weight heifers sold mostly between $650 & $875. M&N Hall sold 20 Hereford heifers from $815-$935.
While not selling to the same strength as their brothers, the heavier heifers equalled 284-309c with the younger and lighter heifers improving as the sale progressed.
