A HIGHLIGHT of the Myrtleford store cattle sale last Friday was the strength of competition for cows and calves. More rain has fallen in and around the local area, but equally across a large part of Victoria and the Riverina.
Selling agents Paull & Scollard opened the sale with annual drafts of Angus heifers, and cows with calves at foot. From the opening pen prices were $300-$400 higher than any recent sale.
The first two pens sold for $2200, but this was eclipsed soon after with Adam Fitridge receiving $2300 for Angus heifers and calves.
Joined females, PTIC, sold in a very tight price range of $1160-$1250 for a mixture of Hereford heifers and cows, and Shorthorn cows.
Demand for steers was slow to start, selling to $1300, but the best competition was for lighter weight steers that sold mostly between $865 & $1140.
Heifers sold to mixed responses, but prices were equal to recent sales. Heifers weighing over 300 kilograms liveweight sold mostly from $900-$1130.
