Silvan spray specialists have developed a new spray cleaning system to take the time consuming work out of cleaning broiler chicken sheds.
With sheds cleaned after each batch of chickens is processed, operators remove the litter before a major internal cleanup and disinfection takes place.
Recently the owner and manager of Grandview Poultry’s broiler chicken facility in central Victoria approached Silvan Australia to see if an improved cleaning method could be developed.
Using manual high pressure water jets was slow and costly and generally a day per shed task to complete.
Silvan Australia’s spraying specialist Chris Tait took on the challenge and reckoned the problems could be overcome with high volumes of air to drive the spray into all of the hidden areas of the sheds where dust could be trapped.
The resultant machine is based on a Silvan Stiletto 2000 litre capacity trailed spray tank fitted with a modified Silvan Powerhead conveyor assembly.
The Powerhead assembly has multiple high volume adjustable nozzles delivering an accurate penetrating spray that reaches into places normally missed with manual cleaning methods.
The Powerhead has several bottom wings on the conveyor as standard for targeted application
“Grandview Poultry were delighted with the result as they have calculated that the cleaning,
disinfection and internal dust removal in each of their grower sheds can be done in about half a day with an excellent result, whereas the manual internal cleaning was taking about one to one and half full days with a lesser result,” Mr Tait said.
Tank sizes available with the Powerhead range from 2000 litres to 4000 litres.
