Concerns about the transparency and fairness of livestock market activities have prompted the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to announce dates for a series of cattle and beef forums in regional areas.
The forums are a part of the competition watchdog’s market study into the cattle and beef industry initiated last year.
They are being organised so people in the livestock industry can speak directly about competition and fair trading issues that concern them.
The ACCC said producers and others in the sector would have the opportunity to raise concerns directly with ACCC Commissioners.
“The forums are an important part of our public consultation for the market study, which examines competition, efficiency, transparency and trading issues across the supply chain.”
Public forums will be held at Wodonga, on the NSW- Victorian border on June 7; Toowoomba, Queensland, June 10; Mount Gambier, South Australia, June 20; Dubbo, NSW, June 24, and Bunbury, WA on July 1.
During June and July, ACCC staff will also visit a number of regional areas where forums are not being held.
Anybody with issues they would like to raise or contribute to the inquiry, but was unable to attend a forum, is being encouraged to call or email us the ACCC.
Contact details, and further information on the forums and the market study are available at www.accc.gov.au/cattlestudy.
