Quamby Plains Poll Herefords
26 of 27 bulls sold to $7250, av $4900
AN improved clearance, average and top-price have pleased the Archer family of Quamby Plains Poll Herefords, Hagley, Tasmania.
Principal Victoria Archer said the $7250 top-priced bull Quamby Plains Kingdom K570 (AI) (P) was knocked down to very good return buyers James and Rob Marshall, Tullochgorum Estate P/L, Fingal Tas. This bull was in the top 10 per cent for BreedPlan estimated breeding values of calving ease direct, calving ease daughters, birth weight and rib fat, which it combines with high milk and good growth.
This excellent heifer bull’s figures were backed up by an impressive phenotype of a good colour, soft coat and weight of 774 kilograms at 20 months of age.
Ms Archer said he stood out as one of the top handful of bulls from a very strong, even line-up that was offered via helmsman sale.
This bull was by Elite Revolution 4R G241 (AI) (P), and was one of three of his sons that sold very well (the others making $6250 and $6000).
The second top-priced lot was a Quamby Plains Kazoo that was sold for $6750 to Judith Nicolson, Streanshalh, Campbell Town Tas.
The Archer family was very pleased to have good support from new as well as return buyers. The latter included producers from Flinders Island who purchased a total of nine bulls. Roberts conducted the sale.
