Guilford Poll Herefords
27 of 40 bulls sold to $7500, av $4600
THE average price was up at Guilford Poll Herefords’ sale, although the clearance rate was down reflecting the poor season. Principal of the Ouse, Tas, based stud, Philip Davie, said the lower clearance reflected that many prodcuers had sold a lot of female cattle, saying: “I was very happy with the line up of bulls and hopefully conditions will improve and people will get back into cows.”
The top-priced bull Guilford Kurrajong K140 stood out as a good, complete bull with length, depth and thickness as well as well-balanced estimated breeding values.
The July 2014-drop sire was in the top one per cent for rib and rump fats, top 5pc for 400-day weight and top 10pc for 600-day weight, carcase weight and intramuscular fat. The Allendale Bushman F119 son was sold to new buyers JE&PC MacLeod, Jingellic NSW, who Mr Davie said were under-bidders at last year’s sale but on Tuesday, secured two bulls, the second for $3000.
The other mainland buyer was Ewenmar Herefords, Tooma NSW, that got six bulls to the equal second-highest price of $6500 for Guilford Kitchenhand K97, a Morganvale Rocket E15 son. Also at $6500 was another Bushman son, Guilford Kentucky K111, that was sold to S K Elphinstone, Harford Tas.
Also with six bulls was Killara Pastoral, Flinders Island. One other bull went to Flinders and four to KI.
