SEVERAL large lines of quality Angus weaners were offered at Naracoorte’s monthly store sale last Thursday, with steers selling $80-$100 better than expected, Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen’s Ashley Braun said.
Mr Braun said it confirmed confidence in the cattle market.
Steers sold to strong competition. Teys Australia and Thomas Foods International (TFI) battled it out with local restockers for a limited offering of heavier feeder steers with weights of 370 kilograms plus.
Overall, steers 400kg+ made $2.72 -$3.15/kg; 350-400kg+ $2.92-$3.25/kg; 300-350kg $3.08-$3.35/kg and less than 300kg from $3.11-$3.87/kg. Heifers 350-400kg made $2.84-$2.98kg; 300-350kg $2.84-$3.10/kg; and below 300kg $2.72-$3.03/kg.
Teys bought 94 steers, including the day’s sale toppers – 11 Angus cross steers, April/May 2014 drop, average 449kg, sold a/c JH Ryan & Son at $1360 or $3.03/kg and a second draft of the Ryan family’s Angus cross steers, 496kg, at $1350 or $2.72/kg.
A draft of 16 May 2015 drop Duck Island blood Angus and Angus cross steers, Pasture Certified Assurance Scheme accredited, 381kg at $1210 or $3.18/kg sold a/c Gunyah Trust were bought by Teys, also buying 18 Coolana and Lancaster bld, April/May 2015 drop Angus steers, 371kg, at $1205 or $3.25/kg sold a/c Gilbrae Pastoral Co, Coonalpyn. TFI bought 21 Granite Ridge bld Angus steers 423.3kg at $1333 or $3.15/kg sold a/c DJ&VG Bator, as well as 18 EU accredited Pathfinder bld Angus steers, February/March 2015 drop, 400kg, at $1272 or $3.18/kg sold by the Bowyer Family Trust, Robe.
