Beef cattle sold well at the Echuca store sale on Monday. Tony Hooppell, FP Nevins, said there were more dairy cross cattle offered in the 700 yarding and they sold to weakened demand.
Cows and calves generally sold softer. Exceptions included Knapdale Pastoral’s Angus-Hereford cows with their second Angus CAF that sold for the category high of $1600 to local restockers. Burnewang sold eight Poll Hereford heifers each with Sep drop CAF for $1570. Other notable female sales were A&V Taylor’s eight Gelbvieh heifer PTIC to Allednaw Charolais bulls, 6-8 months, that were also knocked down to a local buyer for $1140. Bill Ward, Picola, sold eight Shorthorn heifers for $800 which was some $40 dearer than the steers. Local buyers competed with some north-east and Riverina restockers. The biggest draft was Keogh Cattle Co with 120 Brangus Sep/Oct drop calves. Its steers sold to $835 and heifers to $665. Mr Hoopell said beef steers sold similarly or a touch better, such as Hayes & Ritchee’s Charolais with four at $1190 and three at $950.
