EVERY time the Australian cricket team takes to the field in a test match, they wear a distinctively South Australian product.
The famous cable knit cricket jumper that accompanies the baggy green and creams of the Australian team is made at the Silver Fleece factory in Kilkenny.
The wool is bought from the Flinders Ranges and processed by Michell Wool in Salisbury South, completing a South Australian chain that ultimately showcases local wool on the world stage.
Silver Fleece opened its doors for a factory tour on Wednesday, showing politicians and wool industry officials the final stage of the jumper-making process.
Silver Fleece director Cathy Barton said the company started making the jumpers about 40 years ago, and deal with current sponsor Asics, who supply Cricket Australia with the final product.
"It's not a contract, there's an understanding which is very Australian," she said.
Ms Barton said the fact that the process was entirely South Australian was "amazing", and a process she hopes will continue for years to come.
"I think as long as they (the Australian cricket team) wear a baggy green, they'll wear a cable knit pullover," she said.
