Tasmania’s Tamaroo Angus stud, Cygnet, held a very strong bull sale earlier this month, thanks in part to increased recognition and participation from mainland buyers. Twelve of 14 bulls sold and principal Adam Harvey said the $4200 average was up on last year’s result.
The top-priced bull was lot 34, TFV K2, which was the sole purchase for first-time buyers the Blyth family of Flinders Island. The early July 2014-drop bull sold for $6500 and was the second heaviest of the sale draft, weighing in at 850 kilograms. He was sired by a home-bred bull and out of an American ET cow, and was a nice, soft bull with plenty of length.
Return client Surveyors Bay Pastoral purchased the second and third top-priced bulls – lot 5 K21 for $550 and lot 2 for $5000 for their 900 head-plus cattle operation that targets weaner sales.
The biggest volume buyer of the sale was the Drysdale family, Yarck, Victoria, who bought three bulls, av $3833.
Mr Harvey said the team was really pleased with the sale including attracting new buyers: “People are getting to know our name and recognise our bulls’ longevity, structurally correctness and great temperaments.”
