ANGUS stud stock breeders Jim and Suzy Martin, Welcome Swallow, Illalangi, have flagged an ongoing involvement in the industry, although their operation has now been all but wound up.
Mr Martin told buyers at the combined Alpine Angus-Welcome Swallow autumn bull sale it was likely their interest would continue for some time. Mrs Martin said it was hoped she and her husband would be part of the Alpine program “for as long as they need us.” Alpine and Welcome Swallow bulls were offered jointly, at the Rosewhite selling complex. Welcome Swallow’s heifers were sold last September.
“We thought it was a very good fit, we decided that we would market out first draft of bulls here for the autumn sale and that would be our last sale,” Mrs Martin said.
A Texas Mount K2 bull, purchased for $45,000, would also continue their ongoing interest in the industry.
“Well, I hope we have enough imagination to reinvent ourselves, but it won’t be breeding stud cattle,” she said.
