AUSTRALIA’S largest beef field days, Stock & Land Beef Week has today announced its new dates for 2017.
The event will next year start in East Gippsland on Friday, January 27, and end in north-east Riverina on Saturday, February 4.
The nine Stock & Land Beef Week days are adjusted each year in an attempt to avoid clashes with other events and to act as a prelude to the frantic on-property bull selling season which commences mid-February, according to Stock & Land Beef Week director Geoff Phillips.
“In 2107 we start the day after Australia Day and have scheduled the days close to Melbourne over the weekend (January 29 and 30) to cater for off-farm workers,” he said.
Days 4 and 5 (Monday and Tuesday January 30 and 31) cover the packed Western District program with Day 6 covering the Goulburn Valley and west Riverina.
Day 7 (Thursday February 2) is in north-east Victoria with the final two days in east Riverina.
“The event continues to grow in importance with a focus on bull sales with one of the bulls on display in 2016 selling for $110,000 a couple of weeks later at the stud’s annual sale,” Mr Phillips said.
“Whether studs produce 10 bulls or 300 bulls a year, Stock & Land Beef Week is a low cost high impact event for marketing beef industry seedstock to other seedstock producers and the commercial industry,” he said.
