Producers have become more active in store markets, and Wodonga was no different with producers purchasing steers to fatten and some heifers to return to the paddock too.
Dunromin, Jindera, sold 14 Hereford steers, 487kg, for $1485, and IR&JE Allan, Whorouly, 61 Hereford steers, 438kg, for $1455. Selling for the equivalent of 305 and 335c/kg liveweight was a very good result.
Most of the yearling steers sold between $1100 and the top price with most sales equalling a range of liveweight prices from 300-351c/kg. Ginnivan & McGowan, Indigo Valley, sold 31 Angus steers from $1285-$1430, Royston Park, Violet Town, 38 Angus steers $1435-$1450. Many of these yearling steers went for grain feeding.
Younger steers sold very well with many quoting a dearer sale, and the results did reflect some of this. Many of the steers showed good breeding and sold between $910 and $1240. The steers weighing over 300kgs lwt, sold for the equivalent of 330-355c.
LT&CE Briggs, Cudgewa, sold 25 Angus steers from $1030-$1240. Paddle & Hodgkin, Khancoban, sold 40 Angus steers from $1025-$1190.
Few larger lines of steers came forward now that the major sales have finished, and seasonal conditions have improved.
RJ Witherow, Enenberry, Murmungee, sold 54 Hereford steers from $870-$1100 with the lightest steers heading for a new home at Gundagai.
