The Baker family kicked off the South East bull sales circuit in spectacular fashion with a total clearance of 93 Simmental and SimAngus bulls for a superb average of $7409 average.
One of the highlights of the stud’s ninth annual elite production bull sale on Thursday was a new $27,500 Australian record for a Black Simmental record.
The bull – Webb Tank K090 (P) (AI) was sold to Kevin Hard, Naracoopa stud, Denmark WA via phone connection.
The top traditional Simmental bull at $15,000 was lot 1, Woonallee Kenworth K095 (P), which was also the equal second top price. This was one of eight bulls Peter & Odette Morley, Boomey Park, Molong NSW bought to be the volume buyers in the sale.
As well as these highs there was consistent middle ground buying strength with 84 per cent selling in the tight price range from $5000 to $9000. The average was up 7pc on last year’s outstanding bull sale average, despite the 40pc increase in the number of bulls offered.
This result was really a combination of the greater confidence in the beef industry, plus the outstanding quality and presentation by the Baker family. They also aligned very closely with market sentiment at present with their 2015 purchase of the entire Webb Black Simmental herd allowing them to offer 60pc of black bulls in this sale.
An outstanding commercial female sale on Auctions Plus in the morning of the bull sale saw the Bakers overall gross for the day more than $1 million.
On Auctions Plus 159 weaner heifers and 73 cows averaged $1466 and grossed $340,120.
