Return clients underpinned the solid market for quality Poll Dorset stud ewes and rams at the annual Armdale/Armdale Park on-property sale on account the Armstrong family, Marrar.
Top price at $2000 was paid twice for Poll Dorset rams, while stud ewes sold to $1350.
Indicative sale results for the Armdale stud, included 63 mated ewes sold to $110 and averaged $357, five rams in single pens sold to $1700 and averaged $1260 and 24 flock rams sold to $1900 for average of $1116.
The Armdale Park offering included 46 mated ewes sold to $1350 for average of $325, five rams in single pens sold to $2000 (twice) to average $1820, with 30 flock rams selling to $1900 (four time) to average $1203.
Each of the top price rams were bought by return clients, with Angus McGeoch from Borambola and the Dennis Family Trust, from Collingullie sharing the honours.
Mr McGeoch purchased 14 rams for an average price $1257 and was impressed by the quality offered.
“I am looking for rams with quick maturity, with a high growth index so we can get our lambs of the place quickly,” he said.
“We also like high fertility in our ewes.”
The top priced stud ewe was purchased by new client CK and FJ Roweth, “Nullawonga”, Browns Creek via Orange.
The Roweth family purchased nine ewes for an avergae price of $788.
Another new client, Neville and Jan Lubke, from Jindera purchased two stud ewes for average of $1075.
“We were looking for new blood for our stud, and thought the ewes were the best in the sale,” Mr Lubke said.
“They have a good carcase on a big sheep and are proven breeders.”
Other volume buyers of mated stud ewes included repeat clients Andy and Tania Carrigan, “Clermont Park”, Merriwa who bought ten ewes for average price $445 and the Terlich family, “Clearview”, Pleasant Hills who purchased ten ewes for average price $425.
Speaking on behalf of his family, Gary Armstrong said he was very happy with the sale results.
“The sheep presented exceptionally well, and it is pleasing to see so many repeat clients at the sale.”
