The full paddock of cars could was an indication of just how busy Tim and Jessica Scott, Table Top Angus were during their Beef Week open day, where they sold more than 10 bulls by mid-afternoon. There were also plenty of ongoing orders for young bull calves by Matauri Reality, a NZ stud sire, which has been used in the stud for the past three years. Their booming business inspired the acquisition of another property to increase their numbers from their current 450 Angus breeders and 450 commercial herd. They are pictured with new client Mick Teschner, Huon Creek, NSW, Beef Week committee chairman Daryl Pearson and Paul & Schollard agent Dan Holt, Albury. 

It is a year of firsts for Rowley and Stacey Bennett of Fernhill Angus, Lowesdale, who opened their gates to visitors during their first Stock & Land beef Week, in preparation for their first on property bull sale in September. Historically the 17 year-old stud has sold privately, although the growth from 50 to 250 breeders means the demand for their Angus bulls was best offered at auction. 

Warwick Court Hereford and Poll Hereford principals Sue and Bob Holdsworth’s launched themselves at an ultimate showcase of stock during their first participation in Beef Week. The stud entered a stylish pen of pregnancy tested in calve from heifers for judging in the Royal Agricultural Society Victoria Heifer Challenge competition judged by beef industry identity Bob Dent, Glen Innes, NSW.

Stunning embryo transfer heifers calving to a complete outcross linage, with a New Zealand cow and American bull, were on display during Beef Week at Eurimbla Red Poll and Shorthorns stud, Table Top. The striking females attracted a constant audience, according to principals Ian and Jill Coghlan, who said the heifers’ dam and sire were selected for their outstanding performance recordings. They are pictured with stud support James Brown, Ray White, Albury. 

The 30 French Pure Limousin breeding cows recently acquired from the Ivyrock Limousin Stud  retirement dispersal were on display at Les Martres Limousin Stud, Table Top open day. Pictured with stud principal Leon Martin (centre) are return clients of eight years George and Matthew Wallace, Temora, NSW. They are viewing bulls which will be on offer at the stud’s sale on 26 February.

Winning the best presented pen at the Wodonga weaner sale this month for 20 Charolais steers, eight to 10 month-old, 387kg, which sold to $1230, topped off a fantastic year for David and Judy Gray, Huon Charolais, Jindera, NSW. They stud’s growth has been strong with 26 bulls sold this season to clients deep into NSW and across Victoria and a further four during their Beef Week open day. 

Col Ellis, Gerogery, NSW, and his agent Mike Scollard, from Paul & Scollard at Albury, NSW, along with John Adams, Staghorn Flat, enjoyed their morning looking through the upcoming sale bulls at Dunoon Angus. They were again impressed with the way the cattle were presented and with their fantastic temperaments.  

Riley Semmens, Nigel Semmens, Genetics Australia, Mark Cheshire, Burrowye, Michale Glasser, GTSM Agent, Dean Fredrickson, Dalwhinnie Angus, Orange, Mike and Joy Gadd, The Glen and Lachlan Reeves looked over the Spring sale bulls that will feature their two new stud sires, Rennylea Ambassdor and Cudgegong Park Grange.

Nigel Spink of Challambi Charolais, Greg Greg, was happy to show off his junior show heifer destined for the local shows this year. Sired by Red Smoke with the dam line going back to Palgrove. Challambi’s aim is to sell grass fed bulls that produce calves that finish well on grass. 

Andrew and Serena Klippel are pictured with Sugarloaf Klippel an 860kg, 18 month-old bull who sold on the day to Robert and Scott Reid, Chudleigh, Howlong, for $15,000, sired by Truro Genghis Kahn. 

Elders stud stock representative Jim Bruce inspects composite bulls with Tom Hicks of Hicks Beef. Multi-Breed performance figures produced by International Genetic Solutions and recently introduced at Hicks Beef have shaped the program more than any other innovation previous implemented by the Hicks family.

Michael McCormack of The Cascade Pastoral Co, Tallangatta; Franko Rossetti of Hilltop, Mossvale; Brian Unthank Rural’s Gerard Ryan, Albury, NSW; and Rennylea principal Bryan Corrigan inspect bulls. Mr Corrigan said the bulls sum up what Rennylea is all about, bulls that will take the commercial industry in a sustainable direction with fertility, carcase, meat quality, and maternal traits for sustainable cow herds. Rennylea has formed a research project with Zoetis to HD50K this year's entire bull cohort and entire calf crops in coming years which will analyse the advantages HD50K brings when making breeding decisions.

Garren Park principal Karen Hedger with two junior bulls distended for Limousin National. Strong demand with bulls and females sold prior to beef week open day to repeat clients of back of successful sales. Mrs Hedger commented on excitement amongst clients with the discussed introduction of BioScan and processors paying on yield.

Mr Hore commented on the positivity within industry saying that industry has not been more positive in his memory. Mr Hore felt industry positivity impacted on success of open day, selling numerous bulls on day.

Matt Collins of Kenmere Charolais with repeat clients George and Sharron Taylor, Lone Pine, Boralma. Kenmere has a strong focus on breeding bulls for the vealer trade with a focus on rib and rump fats as well as calving ease.

Ken Hulme, Koorong, Holbrook, NSW, with Centennial’s Paul Rogers. Mr Rogers said he was very happy with a constant stream of visitors, and it was on track to be a record field day attendance. Centennial consider this draft of bulls to be the best for several years, being industry relevant with the desired carcase traits.

Wirruna principal Ian Locke with Paul and Diane Marshall, Orbost. Wirruna uses Stock & Land Beef Week open day to give clients a preview of bulls and females prior to its upcoming sale. Mr Locke said field days allowed new and existing clients to look through cattle and talk cattle without obligation.

Kanimbla and Riverina had an exceptional amount of people through selling half a dozen bulls prior to lunch. Mr McWilliam said it is good to see both new and repeat clients, adding there was a huge support from seedstock producers.

Co-manager Libby Ward and principal Jenny Burgess with a selection of Ravensdale bulls. New to Holbrook area, Ravensdale strive for genetic gain and are developing a young high performance herd through an aggressive embryo transfer program.
Ravendale had 45 bulls on display and had a great response selling numerous bulls on the day.

Leo and Mark Corrigan of Glenruben walking through yearling bulls with Russell Parker, Ingleburn, Holbrook, NSW. Glenruben had a positive day which reflects positivity in the industry, with both existing and new clients inspecting cattle. Mr Corrigan felt cattle stood up to expectation.
