BLAYNEY Poll Hereford stud cattle breeder Trish Worth was appointed a member of the Order of Australia (AM), but it’s not for her work in the cattle industry.
Mrs Worth has another life outside her cattle interests and her AM was for significant service to community health through drug and alcohol prevention organisations, and to the Parliament of Australia.
Her career as Member for Adelaide from 1993 to 2004 opened the door to her involvement in a long list of advisory boards, committees and commissions relating to community health.
Having a background in nursing and health care certainly spurred this enthusiasm for the work.
Mrs Worth was also the first female whip in the House of Representatives.
In 1997, she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Family Services and was responsible for the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and all regulatory areas including medicines, food, radiation and medical devices.
