TRIALS and demonstrations of Howard Australia’s Condor mower across Australia over the past year has seen municipalities in four states add the clean cut mower to their maintenance arsenal.
The heavy duty Condor has proved a popular choice on the back of its design, some unique features and efficient operation.
Designed for turf clubs and golf courses, as well as keeping parks, sports ovals, grounds and roadsides Australian distributor, PFG said it was suitable for councils and grass contractors alike.
The trials program has also prompted Howard Australia to begin evaluating a 2.4 metre rigid frame prototype, which has the same design advantages as the winged Condor.
PFG said trials with a Victorian city council are underway and operators have already reviewed the new machine favourably.
Howard Australia’s Trevor Telford said the company’s program of onsite Condor mower demonstrations is still in full swing.
“If you can’t talk to someone who’s actually using a Condor mower, a demo is the next best way to learn how efficient and versatile it is.
“With a strong swing-tip blade system and high blade tip speed of 90 metres a second at the blade end, you’re going to get a clean cut in a wide range of conditions,” he said.
“The thickness of the blade means it can handle light maintenance and also tackle heavy wet grass up to 300 mm, which is where other mowers can run into trouble. And you can use the Condor on tractors from 44.7 to 82 kW.”
The Condor mower is 3.61 metres wide with a 3.49 metre cutting width and full-width 165 mm diameter rollers. It has a hot-dipped galvanised body for easy cleaning.
An adjustable front roller allows precise height control from ground level to 100 mm.
Front chains give longer grass better entry to the cutting chamber, and design improvements to belt engagement and larger drive pulleys have worked to minimise belt slippage in heavy conditions.
The Condor folds to 2.35 metres for transport and locks securely into place with a spring-loaded pin.
