YOUNG ewes sold to a saleyard record price of $246 at Jamestown last Thursday with Sam Lemon, Gulnare, selling the top price line of 122 Moorundie Park-blood 17-month-old to 18mo ewes to Landmark Loxton.
The hogget ewes cut more than 7 kilograms of 20.5-micron wool - including bellies - this year, which the Lemons sold for 850 cents/kg to 900c/kg greasy, earning their previous owners an extra $60 a head.
The quality of ewes in the 24,000 yarding of sheep and lambs was generally exceptional for northern-types, and bidders paid accordingly.
Landmark Jamestown auctioneer Don Cullen said the record-breaking ewes were a magnificent line-up, being big in size and well presented.
"The quality of the first 10 pens of ewes was exceptional, they were all fantastic sheep," he said.
"The 3500 Ingomar wethers, April-shorn, were also a one-off.
"We'll never see a line-up of wethers like that pass through here again."
Ingomar Station, Coober Pedy, wethers were sold by property owner White Energy, which bought the station in December.
T&R Pastoral's Richard Winckel took the majority of the wethers - 2900 - for the top price of $126.
Overall, they averaged $122.
