ARMY Hercules will continue to deliver 130 patients evacuated from Bundaberg Hospital to Brisbane Airport as the situation in the flood-ravaged Queensland city continues to worsen.
Some high-risk patients – including newborns and their mothers – were evacuated last night.
A Hercules C130 is making trips to-and-from the flood-devastated city, but a Queensland Health spokesperson said any available aircraft are being pressed into service.
Premier Campbell Newman flew into Bundaberg this morning to see patients on gurneys awaiting transport.
The city is suffering through its worst-ever flood, with the Burnett River is expected to reach a peak of 9.5 metres tonight or early Wednesday.
Four Blackhawk helicopters and several civilian choppers performed over 1000 air rescues overnight, lifting stranded residents off roofs in North Bundaberg.
SES operations have resumed this morning, after the evacuations began from 3am Monday.
