THE Kimberley Cattlemen's Association (KCA) has broadened its horizons and changed its name, at the first annual general meeting in Broome on Monday.
KCA executive chairman Peter Camp told Farm Weekly the association has decided to incorporate the Pilbara into the name to become the Kimberly Pilbara Cattlemen's Association (KPCA).
"Through the development stages of this group it was originally the KCA, because we weren't sure the Pilbara would come on board,'' Mr Camp said.
"But we have a strong membership base out of the Pilbara now, so it's only fair to change the name so the Pilbara is incorporated into the association."
Mr Camp said Pilbara pastoralists will have a stronger voice.
"The Northern Territory Cattlemen's Association (NTCA) has supported us since the development of the KCA," he said.
"We also have support from the Gulf Cattlemen's Association (GCA), which is northern Queensland."
Mr Camp hopes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the two other associations will be signed in the new year.
"We have an alliance there," he said.
"Hopefully in the new year an MOU between the GCA, NTCA and KPCA will be signed to have a strong alliance in the north."
Mr Camp said this was important.
"However we still have our connections with the south of the State," he said.
The KPCA also selected three new executives to make up a board of nine, which includes Wendy Brockhurst, Larrawa station, David Stoate, Anna Plains station, Haydn Sale, Yougawalla and Bulka station, Rick Ford, Go Go station, Kurt Elezovich, Country Downs station and Mr Camp, Kalyeeda station.
The Pilbara executives are Shane Dunn, Rio Tinto superintendent pastoral stations, Annabelle Corrpin, Yarrie station, and Ben Wratten, Minderoo station.
Following the KPCA meeting, the Pastoralists and Graziers Association's Kimberley division held its meeting, where Mr Camp stepped down from the role of president of that division.
"I have been in this role for about three years, it was time to give someone else the reins," he said.
"I have a large workload, but the KPCA and the PGA will still continue to work together."
Anne Marie Huey, Dampier Downs station, is the new president of the PGA's Kimberley division and Peter O'Brien, Liveringa station, is its vice-chairman.
