A new Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) report has shown the number of small Australian vegetable farms has dropped by more than a quarter, in the last year.
Survey results suggested increased costs were hitting small farmers the hardest, AUSVEG deputy chief executive Andrew White said.
“Smaller sized farms do not have the ability to be able to benefit from economies of scale in the same way that their larger competitors can,” Mr White said.
