SIXTY years of parading dairy cattle at the Royal Melbourne Show has not curbed the enthusiasm of the three Troutbeck brothers.
Edward, Garry and Keith - who milk 50 cows at Yuroke - were commemorated for their ongoing support of the event over six decades, collecting a certificate of appreciation from the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) on Monday afternoon.
“It’s nice to be acknowledged,” Keith said.
“It thought it was good when we got to 50 years, but this is pretty special.”
The animated brothers show their Guernsey cattle under the prefix Bala-Wai and have proudly carried on the showing tradition from their late parent’s Hutton and Isabelle.
They brought their mother Isabelle to Melbourne every year until she died just before her 102nd birthday in 2010.
Hutton established the Guernsey stud in 1944 and in 1950 purchased two elite bulls from the Royal Melbourne Show for 100 guineas each, which the brothers admit was a “lot of money” in those days.
