THE latest move into the luxury wool apparel market has been unveiled in the Merino Mini Collection.
Merino Mini products were showcased at the Italian children's apparel trade show Pitti Immagine Bimbo, alongside more than 500 brands in Florence, Italy.
The project was created by The Woolmark Company to highlight the natural benefits of wool and includes innovative wool jersey and knitted pieces such as Ewenique – an Australian brand that produces baby sleepwear and wraps in Australian Merino wool.
Ewenique sources luxurious, soft fabrics from Woolmark licensee Charles Parsons and uses a local maker in NSW to produce its garments.
"Wool's unique vapour-management qualities move moisture away from the skin, allowing a baby to stay cooler and drier with a more consistent body temperature throughout the night, whatever the season," Ewenique co-owner Monique Harper said.
"No man-made fibre has come close to replicating Merino's natural attributes.
"In our environmentally conscious times, Merino is highly marketable."
Further to that, an AWI-funded study discovered that sleep quality improves when sleeping on or under Merino wool.
This appears to be related to wool's unique temperature and moisture management properties, and texture:
- It keeps body temperature and moisture stable
- Fibre breathability prevents humidity on skin
- Woolmark innovations and wool's natural elasticity make it more comfortable and soft
- It is renewable, biodegradable and long-lasting
- It maintains vivid colours over time and is easy to wash, thanks to Woolmark's total easy care technology.
