WITH the 2015 north-west Vic grain harvest almost complete, Elders Wycheproof wrapped up the calendar year, with a strong result on a quality yarding of 11,100 store sheep last Friday.
Buyers from the western border areas, Ballarat and southern NSW competed keenly, especially for crossbred ewes, increasing prices $20 to $30 on the agency’s November sale.
RN, DJ, JM&J Simpson, Berriwillock, secured the market top for young crossbreds, with a line of June/July 2014-drop ewe maidens sold at $231 to Ballarat agency TB White & Sons.
At just one dollar less, James Boak, Watchem, sold 338 head at $230 to Landmark Naracoorte.
The lead Merino ewe run from SJ&NC McLean, Glenloth, was cleared at $168. The outstanding line of 222 Moorundie Park-blood ewes were well grown, while a second pen of the same made $144. The tops were sold to McKean McGregor Bendigo, while the seconds went to Edenhope, bought by SA-agency Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen.
Most mature breeding ewes made from $76 to $138.
The wether supply was larger than normal, although most were breeders’ annual drafts. Young wool-cutters, 2014-drops made $72-$97, with the best priced, Charinga-bloods, sold by WE&V Rodgers to Cedar Meats.
