CROWDS clapped and cheered this morning as Gilgandra’s own Coo-ee Marchers arrived in Sydney’s Martin Place to attend the annual Remembrance Day ceremony.
The weary marchers, who departed Gilgandra on October 17, were thrilled to finish their 515-kilometre foot journey.
The marchers travelled an average of 28 kilometres a day, and up to 37km on some days, tracing the path the original Coo-ee Marchers took in 1915 on their plight to recruit men to fight in the Great War.
"It's been very special and very personal," said Coo-ee March re-enactment organiser Brian Bywater.
"We're relieved to have arrived, that's for sure."
They kissed, hugged and shook hands with one another as well as with family who had traveled from the Central West to celebrate their final steps.
