Mr Davidson said that he would be using lot 30 as a sire over his 120 stud ewes.
“He has length and shape and a good head on him,” Mr Davidson said.
The Davidsons also purchased an additional Geraldine ram, lot, 35 for $4500, about which Mr Davidson said: “He is a good meaty ram, and we will use him as a back up with our ewes.”
The second top-price lot was another Geraldine ram, lot 9, which sold for $9000 to Martin and Kirsty Harvey, Paxton Border Leicesters, Bordertown, SA. Mr Harvey said that he was a return buyer for Geraldine: “We bought one of Geraldine’s rams four or five years ago, and he’s done really well for us.” Lot 9 was by Bauer Stockman 2nd 252/2011 and had a Border $ index of 110.7.
Another notable purchase was lot 23 – a ram from Heather Stoney, Ellingerrin stud, Modewarre, which was purchased by Noel Lubke, Leonella Border Leicesters, Winchelsea, for $8000.
Ewes were also offered in the sale for the first time, with two single lots and four pens of three. All ewes sold for $400 each, with one lot passed in within a pen of three.
Sale organiser Mr Baker said that he was pleased with how the sale went: “It was very good overall.”
“Last year was tough going, but the good rams sold well and it’s an excellent result,” Mr Baker said.
Ross Milne, Elders Stud Stock, said he was happy with the sale: “It was a very good clearance and a very even sale – one of the most consistent sales we’ve had.”
