The ever-growing shortage of hives for pollination has driven the emergence of a dedicated pollination sector of beekeeping, Tasmanian Crop Pollination Association spokesman Julian Wolfhagen said.

“It is clear that this has become a specialised sector in its own right,” Mr Wolfhagen said.
“Once honey is no longer the aim, then everything changes, from disease and risk management to the economics.”
He said the group would work closely with Fruit Growers Tasmania.
