CLEAR HILLS
Total clearance of Charollais-Southdown cross, to $1300 and 35-40 pure Southdowns, to $1200, sale av $814.55.
TAKING rams to where they are going to be used has paid dividends for Clear Hills, Goorombat grazier, Graeme Hooper.
Mindful of the number of graziers in the north-east switching to cropping,Mr Hooper loaded up 60 Charollais-Southdown cross and pure Southdown rams and took them to Rutherglen showgrounds.
“I was expecting it to be a bit flat and bring a lot home, I was surprised we cleared a lot more than we did,” Mr Hooper said.
The move paid off, when all his Charollais-Southdown cross rams sold, while only five pure Southdowns were not snapped up.
“I’ve taken the rams to Rutherglen in the past and people are getting to know that,” Mr Hooper said.
“In our district, there are a lot of farmers who used to run sheep, but who are now grain growers.
