The latest Tasmanian Irrigation (TI) annual report has highlighted another busy and successful year for water development, in the state, according to Primary Industries Minister Jeremy Rockliff.
In the past financial year, TI celebrated the opening seasons of the Midlands and Kindred North Motton irrigation schemes, and the completion of construction of the South East Stage three, Upper Ringarooma and Dial Blythe schemes.
The Midlands Water Scheme and the associated six-megawatt Midlands Power Station was awarded the Civil Contractors National Earth Award (category 4 for $30-75 million projects) for excellence in civil construction, Mr Rockliff said.
“The three new schemes, meanwhile, were completed on time and within budget, with no reportable incidents of environmental non-compliance during construction, continuing TI’s outstanding record in delivering these projects,” Mr Rockliff said.
Water sales were launched for the tranche two Duck, Southern Highlands, Swan and Scottsdale irrigation schemes, with strong support from local communities, particularly for the Duck and the Southern Highlands.
“With more schemes coming online, we have also seen an increase in the local water trading market with around 10,400 mega litres traded in TI schemes during the year.”
