Tom Pegler, Beachport, South Australia and Aidan Auld, Kalangadoo, SA.
Mr Pegler said it was proving to be a tough season in south east South Australia, were recorded rainfall is well below its average and it has not rained at all yet this month. Mr Auld added that there had been virtually no spring rain. Mr Pegler said the family ran 2500 composite ewes and they would be selling some lambs as soon as possible and the rest would be feedlotted or put on the new Lucerne crop that is under irrigation.
Mr Auld said they would also offload young stock early, with the weaners of 500 Angus breeder herd so go some weeks early. They said hay and silage production has been done of both farms, and it was three weeks to a month earlier than normal.
